The Caretaker 3-17-8 is the genuine plastic head removal and installation tool used to service Caretaker/Jandy in-floor cleaning heads. It attaches to a standard swimming pool pole so you can reach cleaning heads from the deck without entering the pool.

How to Remove a Caretaker Cleaning Head

1. Make sure the cleaning head is fully down.
2. Attach the 3-17-8 removal tool to your pool pole.
3. Snap the tool securely into the cleaning head.
4. For standard Caretaker heads, turn the tool counter-clockwise approximately 1/4 turn to release the head from the collar.
5. Pull upward to lift the head out of the collar.
6. To reinstall a standard head, insert it into the collar and turn clockwise to lock it into position.

Important: Pre-1992 threaded Caretaker cleaning heads use the opposite removal direction. Turn clockwise to release those older threaded heads.

Compatibility

Designed for Caretaker/Jandy in-floor cleaning systems and Caretaker cleaning heads. The same head-removal procedure is documented across Caretaker in-floor system service instructions, including current bayonet-style heads and older pre-1992 threaded heads with the direction noted above.
