• How It Works Step-by-Step

• Power Activation: When the heater is turned on and calls for heat, the control board sends an electric current to the ignitor.
• Heating Element Activation: The ignitor, made from silicon nitride, rapidly heats up to a high temperature (typically around 1,800°F to 2,500°F or 980°C to 1,370°C) within seconds. Silicon nitride is chosen for its durability, efficiency, and long lifespan.
• Gas Valve Opens: As the ignitor reaches its optimal temperature, the control board opens the valve, allowing natural gas or propane to flow into the burner assembly.
• Ignition of Gas-Air Mixture: The intense heat from the ignitor ignites the gas-air mixture, creating a stable flame that heats the water circulating through the heater.
• Monitoring and Safety: Once the ignition is successful, the ignitor turns off, conserving energy. The flame sensor monitors the flame to remain stable throughout the heating cycle. If the flame goes out or doesn't ignite, the control board will shut off the gas supply for safety.
