Hayward KIT-EXP VLV (Expansion Valve) works by regulating the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator coil of the heat pump system. 

• Sensing Temperature and Pressure: The expansion valve monitors the refrigerant's temperature and pressure as it leaves the condenser and heads toward the evaporator.
• Reducing Pressure: It reduces the pressure of the refrigerant, allowing it to expand and cool. This process turns the refrigerant into a low-pressure, low-temperature liquid.
• Controlling Flow: The valve adjusts the flow rate of refrigerant based on system demand, ensuring just the right amount enters the evaporator coil.
• Facilitating Heat Absorption: The refrigerant moves through the evaporator coil, it absorbs heat from the surrounding air, which is then transferred into the system for heating or cooling.

This precise control helps maintain efficient operation, prevents overheating or freezing, and ensures the reliable performance of the heat pump.
