The ratchet tab (stainless steel) is a replacement part that was made by Pentair. The same high-quality materials were used to manufacture the original factory part. Making this a genuine OEM product.

The ratchet tab was designed to work in correlation with the oscillator assembly, idler gears, cam kit, and finally the lift brush. The tab allows the gears to move forward one notch with each pulse of the oscillator, the tab needs to fully engage the gears to make everything function properly and be able to extend the lift brush. This helps the cleaner rotate and move in a different direction keeping it out of the trouble spots like drains, corners, and steps.

The tab Is made from stainless steel and is supposed to resemble the shape of an L as it was built this way to slide into a slot built on the lower body which keeps it in place. However, due to the fast movements of the cleaner, it does loosen over time and bends out of place causing the lift brush to fail ultimately causing the cleaner to now be stuck or only move in circles. You can fix this by using a finger or thumb to bend the tab back towards the gear so it can re-engage with the gears thus returning power back to the lift brush, in some cases though the integrity of the tab might be lost and not ever work the same so it may need to be replaced.
